What to CHCK before you buy, sell, trade, or submit
Every card eventually asks you a question. Buy it or walk away? Hold it or sell? Trade it, list it, consign it, or send it in for grading?

Almost all of those questions run through the same variable: condition.
Condition decides whether a card is worth the asking price, whether a trade is even, what a listing can honestly claim, and whether a grading submission is worth the fee and the wait. It's also the thing collectors are most often asked to judge from a photo, quickly, with money on the line.
The goal isn't to turn every card into a 10-minute inspection. It's to know what you can actually verify before you commit to the next step.
Start With The Evidence You Can See
Before you decide anything, get clear front-and-back images of the card. That gives you a record you can revisit once the moment has passed.
Good images are well lit, in focus, and free from glare. The entire card should be visible. If it is in a sleeve, top loader, or case, make sure the plastic isn't throwing reflections or hiding the edges.
Photos don't reveal everything. They do show whether there is enough usable evidence to make a more informed decision.
The Condition Aspects To Consider
You don't need to assign a final grade from a quick look. You do need to notice where the condition sits.

Centering changes how a card presents immediately. Look at the borders and design elements on the front and the back. A card can be clean everywhere else and still be visibly off-center.
Corners are the easiest thing to miss. Look for softening, whitening, fraying, or one corner that doesn't match the other three.
Edges deserve their own pass. Chips and wear show up along a border even when the corners look sharp.
Surface is the hardest category to judge from an image. Light scratches, print lines, dimples, and fingerprints disappear under glare or dim lighting. If the surface can't be seen clearly, it's a reason to slow down or ask for better evidence.
Sometimes the right call is to pause.
There's nothing wrong with asking for another angle, another photo, or a day to think it over.
Use a Second Set of Eyes
Quick CHCK is built for this. From just 2 clear photos, chck.ai returns instant condition insights and a detailed report that organizes the visible evidence around centering, corners, edges, and surface.
You can also link an eBay listing directly to CHCK and run it through for a condition report, market analysis, pricing suggestions, and recommendations on where to submit the card.
When That's Not Enough, Run a Full CHCK
Quick CHCK answers whether you should care about the card. Full CHCK answers exactly what its condition is.
It lives in the CHCK iOS app, and it's a guided capture rather than a snapshot. The app walks you through 18 images: multiple angles, flash and no-flash. Glare that buries a print line in one shot gets exposed in the next, so the surface has nowhere to hide.
From Full CHCK, you get advanced damage detection and full sub-grades along with a PSA-equivalent estimate you can weigh against the submission fee. The result is available as a public, verifiable certificate with a shareable link anyone can open and check.
That's the level you want when the decision is expensive: a PSA submission, a high-value pickup, an insurance record, or a premium sale.

The point is not perfection. It's an informed decision.
